Design File (it would be wise to revisit the previous design assignment for review)

Level 1

• Problem defined and at least one sketch for each problem.
• It is a good idea to break down the problem into several smaller problems; (1) stability of the launch, (2) protection of the egg, (3) method to keep the egg aloft as long as possible

Level 2

• It is best to have several alternatives to consider to solve each problem.
• Include all of your ideas in the design file even the ideas which you don't use or consider unimportant.
• A sketch perhaps with a short note or description is the best way to communicate design ideas.

Level 3

• sketches of increasing quality toward some final design sketch.

• Some critique of the design is provided. Perhaps a prediction of what will occur on the test / actual launch days

Launch and Flight Duration

Level 1

• if the top of the rocket is displaced horizontally 50 mm in any direction then it shall return to its launch position or it shall not deflect 50 mm with a load of 5 N
• the masses on the rocket shall be relatively balanced (symmetrical and the aerodynamic additions shall not appear to cause the rocket to have a dangerous turn right off the launch.

Level 2

• if egg is destroyed time is reduced by 2 seconds
• if the egg is completely intact with no cracks time is increased by 2 seconds
• L2- (1-1.99 seconds)

Level 3

• if egg is destroyed time is reduced by 2 seconds

CAD Drawings

Level 1

• These should be sketches of the rocket "as built" not concept sketches.
• These sketches are roughly to scale and are often templates.

Level 2

• Full orthographic drawings for both the rocket and the launchpad are complete.

Level 3

• An accurate to scale front top and side view should be included.

Level 4

• for a 4+ this should be rendered

COMMUNICATION

Visual Design of Rocket

Level 1

• The rocket should be named and identified.

Level 2

• Possible visual design materials include paint, coloured covering, markers, etc..

Level 3

• Has aesthetic merit; pattern, appropriate use of colour, visually appealing etc.

Level 4

• The rockets visual design may be compatible with the theme.
• visual design is particularly appealing

3D Flight Plan

Level 1

• There was some demonstration of a rocket like object moving in space, but it didn't look like either a rocket or a realistic flight pattern

Level 2

• The animation did look like a rocket flying appropriately through space but there were several flaws in either the rocket / launchpad design or the animation of the flight plan.

Level 3

• The animation and contruction of the rocket / launchpad were well done but there were a few flaws in either the design of the objects or the motion of the flight.

Level 4

• The animation and contruction of the rocket / launchpad were very well done and there were none or almost no flaws in either the design of the objects or the motion of the flight.
