*Papers 1, 2 & 3 are written in May of the grade 12 year.
**The labs must account for 60 hours over the 2 years, including 10 hours for the Group IV project. Each lab is evaluated on up to 3 Criteria, with the best two performances submitted to IB. Not all the labs are suitable for IB evaluation the best entries are chosen from the "designated" IB labs that are performed, typically 4 per year

***The Group IV project is a student led team investigation meant to:

  • Develop and apply the students' information and communicaton technology skills in the study of science.
  • Raise awareness of the moral, ethical, social, economic and environmental implications of using science and technology.
  • Encourage an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and the overarching nature of the scientific method..

*Unit tests are constructed to indoctrinate students into IB questioning style and timing. Test are composed of both multiple choice and longer answer questions chosen from and based on previous IB papers with a similar mark to time ratio allocated. All tests are scored using the IB grades and then are back converted to a percentage score based on the CB conversion scale
**The Summative is another form of final evaluation that is different in nature to the final exam to provide students with another opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of the curriculum. In the grade 12 year, the final exam and summative are replaced by the May IB Papers.
***As grade 12 students write their final exams (IB Papers) before the end of the school year and after the 3rd report card, their 3rd report card mark (and final mark) is a predicted mark. This mark is based on the current CB mark and the 2 year trend of their most recent and most consistent achievement level and reflects the teacher's best prediction of how the student will perform on the IB Papers.
