FINAL DESIGN - CONCEPT	A final design has been presented.	Level 1 + A description of how the item is to be used and by whom is included.	Level 1&2+   Design details are included.	Level 1&2&3+ Final design is innovative and unique. Design shows potential in the market as is or with further development.	12 marks
FINAL DESIGN -PHYSICAL OR VIRTUAL MODEL	A physical or virtual model of the design has been created.	Level 1 + The model is suitable for its purpose.	Level 1&2+ The model meets quality standards.	Level 1&2&3+ The model is quite realistic. The model required a higher amount of effort, or has greater degree of difficulty, detail or complexity than the standard.	12 marks

INDICATORS

FINAL DESIGN - CONCEPT

Level 1

• This may be presented by a set of drawings, a virtual model or a physical model.

Level 2

• This is usually in written form with reference to drawings or figures. (This could be on notes on the drawings)

Level 3

• Details must include
  • materials used to make the final design
  • a description or detail sketches or drawings of critical features of the design
  • the dimensions of the design.
  • the designs visual appearance and aesthetics

Level 4

• A good design is one which is realistic and could sell with further development and the correct marketing, production and financing.

FINAL DESIGN - MODEL

Level 1

• A physical model is fabricated from materials. A Virtual model is a 3-dimensional CAD representation of the design.
• Models must be made at Colonel By in class unless otherwise approved in advance by your instructor.

Level 2

• The method of making a model should be appropriate for the design. If a physical model is chosen then appropriate material selection is required. Often both a physical and a virtual model will be produced.

Level 3

• Models should be to scale. Workmanship of physical models should be to standard. Virtual models should be accurate and rendered.
• The main elements of structure, shape, aesthetic design and function must be explained by the model. Does your model identify these elements or does it just identify the space allocation for the various parts of the design?
• The model should be to scale.

Level 4

• The model may be more difficult by having both a physical and virtual model. Also the detail of the model may require a greater degree of effort to complete.
• The final design should be something which is not readily available now and be significantly different from existing designs.
