Frequencies of Musical Notes

• Frequencies of musical notes are devided into octaves.
• Each octave is double the frequency of the previous octave.
• There are twelve frequencies in each octave given the following designations

the # desiganates sharp and is equivalent to the following 12 frequencies (notes) instead using the flat, b desiganation.

Frequencies of notes on or about the fourth octave

• Typically only 7 notes are used in a particular song........ do, ray, me, fa, so, la, tee
• These notes are picked according to frequency intervals that depend on the first note and the type of scale pattern. The easiest to explain is the C major scale. the notes are C, D, E, F, G, A, B then repeat. If you stick to these frequencies you may make a tune that sounds not so bad.
