Wood Beam Design
- As an alternative to a steel beam laminated wood beams can be
used. In many homes both types of beams are used.
- To complete the laminated beam design you should;
- Determine the type of wood to be used. In Ottawa the most
common is #1 grade Spruce.
- Determine the supported
joist length.
- Determine the number of stories to be supported above the
beam and use the appropriate table to select the beam.
