Preliminary Layout of A Robot Arm
- Create a Preliminary Layout of the Robot and the Overall Size
of the Arm
- Page
- Use a A size sheet in landscape (horizontal)
- Make one layer for title block and border with scale 1:1
and consider copy of your previous title block to this layer
or make a new one
- On all subsequent layers determine an appropriate scale
by comparing the maximum dimension that you need to draw to
the size of the paper. Then select the next largest standard
scale. i.e. 1:4, 1:5, 1:10, 1:25.
- select an appropriate snap and reference grid
- Measure and show main parts in your drawing. It is best to
make a sketch on paper first then place the measurements from
the robot onto the paper sketch when measuring.
- show the arm in solid straight out horizontal
- show the arm in extreme positions (like picking up a
coffee cup off the floor) and perhaps in one or more
intermediate positions. (Perhaps the best intermediate
position would be position showing picking up a coffee cup
from a counter)
- show these in phantom line, fine line and/or colour
for clarity
- you may wishg to show the arm in different positions
on different layers and print out more than one
layout.
- show centre lines on all axis of cylindrical
features
- draw arcs in centre line style along the location of the
arm motion
- Reference dimension suggestions from the ground to the top
of the robot and from the cl axis of the shoulder to the coffee
cup when arm is extended.
- Optional /Bonus
- Create a three space Space claim drawing by creating the
primitive shapes of the components and assembling them.
- Add more detail of the components after completion.

assignment
