Design Activities

• Design work for features identified as risk or needing much design
  • Possible design work may include;
    • research
      • of existing designs
      • of standard components which could be used or adapted
      • of materials
    • trial and error
    • modelling
    • layout
    • brainstorming
    • testing
    • sketching
    • calculations
    • investigation
    • etc.
  • Design activity should culminate in a final design including sketches of make parts and list of procured parts.
• Complete detail design of all fabricated components
  • create preliminary drawings (sketches) for each part

Construction Activities

• List raw material and purchase parts required for project
• Purchase or otherwise procure the raw material and parts
• receive purchased parts
• receive raw material for fabrication
• list parts to build
• make a process plan for fabrication (flow chart)
• fabricate parts
• inspect parts - Quality Assurance - be sure drawings match design and any design changes implemented
• assemble
• install

Construction and preliminary documentation activities will culminate in a milestone called the Final Design Review. Each student should be completed the system and most of its documentation.

Documentation Activities

• have a preliminary BOM, Orthographic Layout and Space Claim for the project
• assign part numbers to preliminary drawings (sketches) of each part
• from sketches and layout draw orthographic drawing(s) of the build parts
• dimension orthographic drawing(s)
• from Space Claim evolve draw pictorial drawing(s)

Testing Activities

• Decide tests which need to be conducted to prove out design and create a test plan
• Complete Tests
• Create a Test Report
