Locating Components on a PCB
- It is generally best (especially when starting out) to locate
your components approximately as they are located in the schematic
diagram.
- Be sure to locate components such that they don't interfere
with each other when you will solder the boards. It is also
important to be sure the parts don't hang over the edge of the
board when it is completed.
- Try to use the least amount of 'jumpers'. No jumpers is best.
Some hints here - sometimes you can place a connection under a
part (such as an IC) on the bottom where it would not be possible
if looking only from the top - sometimes you can have a connection
run under a component (such as a resistor) where the component is
soldered.
- Move the components around to optimize the use of space. (make
the circuit as small as possible)
