Review - Waves and Sound

• Try these questions to test yourself, closed book

1. Two (sine) waves travelling different directions meet at one spot. One wave has an amplitude of 1 and a wavelength of 3. The other wave has an amplitude of 0.5 and a wavelength of 1. Draw each wave relatively to scale (for one wavelength of the first wave and three of the second) and then draw the resulting wave (also relatively to scale).
2. Explain what is meant by mechanical resonance.
3. What is the difference between Refraction and Diffraction.
