The Venture Plan Outline & Structure

The Venture Plan should provide an overview of the venture you are proposing along with appropriate detail and supporting analysis.  All of the detail should be presented in the Plan document with important direction and data covered in the formal presentation to the class.  Slight deviations in format are permitted as long as the core material is covered.  It would be advisable to consult on any material deviations from the standard format.  The plan must consist of the following components (see chapters 7 & 11 (particularly the chart on p.262) in the textbook for complete details):

Title Page: (and/or booklet/report cover) with company name and logo; and includes the course, student’s and teacher’s name, along with the due date.

Executive Summary:  This section should tie in/relate well with the detailed body of the report. It should creatively summarize your venture plan.  It should contain a minimum of your Company description, Mission / Vision Statement and Product/Service Description.

The Body: Should include a majority of the criteria discussed in the outline section of this assignment. Refer to your appendices (a,b,c, etc.) as required.   Use headings/dividers to identify sections!

Market Analysis:    Industry Analysis, Competitive Analysis, Marketing Plans, And Sales Strategy

Resource Analysis: SWOT Analysis, Human Resources Team, Material & Technological Resources

Operating Strategy: Management Style & Controls, Human Resource, Material & Property

                                         Management

Financial Strategy: Financial Plan (Assumptions, Income Projections & Statements, Balance Sheets)

Appendices: They should be used as much as possible. This allows the detailed sections of the report to remain uncluttered while still including supporting information in the report for reference. (Much of this information is often displayed in chart form).  Include all charts, pictures and/or graphs, fact sheets, to enhance the report. This allows the report to remain concise and still provide readers/investors with supporting details to enhance credibility.

 Length

It is difficult to specify a length for a detailed and major piece of work such as a venture plan.  You should focus on complete and concise analysis of each component of the plan and not be overly concerned about a specified number of words or pages.

 Presentation

Students will need to create an effective and interesting way of presenting their “Business VENTURES" to the class.

It is recommended that the class presentation be 15-20 minutes in length. Presentations that are too long or too short will be penalized accordingly. Students should use an interesting medium to present work. (i.e.: power-point, charts, graphs, video, overheads, trade show/bulletin board(s), handouts or combination of these materials)
