Course Outline
This course introduces students to information and communication
technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of
digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically
driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet,
database, desktop publishing, presentation software, and website
design skills. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on
digital literacy, effective electronic research, communication
skills, and current issues related to the impact of information
and communication technology.
The following software programs are studied by students enrolled
in the course. Students complete various tutorials and final assignments
in each of these softwares while maintaining a continuous business
idea throughout the year.
Software:
Microsoft Word
• creating tables, formatting text, inserting graphics,
entering math equations
Microsoft Excel
• using formulas & charts to display data
Microsoft PowerPoint
• oral presentation augmentation
Microsoft Publisher
• newsletter and brochure printing
Photoshop
• editing digital images
Dreamweaver
• webpage creation
Flash
• two dimensional animations for websites
FileMaker Pro
• creating a database for a business
Summative
• a final project incorporating all the software studied
throughout the year
