NOTES

Student Responsibility

  • It is the responsibility of the student to catch up on all missed work.

Absences

  • Responsible students make every effort to attend class.  They miss class only on rare occasions.
  • If you know that you will be away (appointment or sports event), speak to the teacher before the absence to find out what you will miss.
  • If you are away unexpectedly (e.g. illness), you should attempt to find out what you are missing while you are away.  If this is not possible, you should obtain class notes and related information as soon as you get back.
  • You should provide a note to your homeroom teacher explaining your absence.  You must also provide a note to your classroom teacher if you miss an evaluation of any kind.  This note must be signed by your parent or guardian.

Missed Evaluations

  • A skipped evaluation will be given a mark of zero.

  • Missed quizzes will be pro-rated, provided a note has been given to the teacher.

  • Any student who misses a laboratory period must, at the discretion of the teacher, either

    • do the lab at a designated time and then write a lab report, or

    • obtain the results from other students, make notes on the lab and then write up the lab.

  • Students who miss a test will be required to write a replacement test as soon as they return.  A note or medical certificate is required to verify the absence.

Summative Evaluation

  • All students are required to write a final exam in June. The exam covers the entire year’s work and will be calculated as 20% of the student’s final mark.
  • A final culminating task (lab skills) will be worth 10% of the summative evaluation.
