1. Quadratic Relations of the Form y = ax2 + bx + c

Overall Expectations

By the end of this course, students will:

• Determine the basic properties of quadratic relations.
• Relate transformations of the graph of y = x2 to the algebraic representation
  y = a(x – h)2 + k.
• Solve quadratic equations and interpret the solutions with respect to the corresponding
  relations.
• Solve problems involving quadratic relations.

2. Analytic Geometry

Overall Expectations

By the end of this course, students will:

• Model and solve problems involving the intersection of two straight lines.
• Solve problems using analytic geometry involving properties of lines and line segments.
• Verify geometric properties of triangles and quadrilaterals, using analytic geometry.

• Using Linear Systems to Solve Problems
• Solving Problems Involving Properties of Line Segments
• Using Analytic Geometry to Verify Geometric Properties

3. Trigonometry

Overall Expectations

By the end of this course, students will:

• Use their knowledge of ratio and proportion to investigate similar triangles and solve
  problems related to similarity.
• Solve problems involving right triangles, using the primary trigonometric ratios and the
  Pythagorean theorem.
• Solve problems involving acute triangles, using the sine law and the cosine law.

• Solving Problems Involving the Trigonometry of Acute Triangles

Each report card is based on the cumulative effect of all evaluations to date. All assignments should be handed in on time. Once
the integrity of an assignment has been compromised (ie. solutions posted, results discussed) the evaluation is no longer valid and
will not be accepted.

MISSED TEST POLICY: For any predictable absence from an evaluation (e.g. dentist appointment, sport event, etc), alternate arrangements must be made with the teacher PRIOR to the day of absence.

Any student missing an evaluation may be given a make-up assessment provided that the absence is considered legitimate by the
teacher and that a note from the parent justifying the absence is given to the teacher on the first day that the student returns to
school. If the absence is not considered legitimate or a note is not provided on time, the student may receive zero for the missed
evaluation.

BOOKS: Students are responsible for the proper care and condition of the books and materials borrowed. It is expected that
books and materials will be returned in the same condition that they were originally received. Students are held responsible for the cost of lost and damaged items.

ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance is an integral part of learning and evaluation in all areas. Irregular attendance may limit a
student’s ability to earn a credit in a particular course. Students knowing they will be absent due to field trips and appointments
must inform their teacher at least two classes in advance. It is a student’s responsibility to make up all the work missed during any absence.
